Volunteering with Greater Berks Food Bank

Just before the holidays, we visited Greater Berks Food Bank for a tour with Doug Long and a look at the volunteer work that goes on there. The organization acquires and distributes food to needy people in the county, and they depend on volunteer teams to help carry out a variety of programs each month.

The day we visited, a team of more than 20 volunteers from Arrow International was working in assembly-line fashion packing plastic crates of food for low-income seniors.

“We decided during the Christmas holidays that, rather than go out and do some type of party, we would come and do something that was very useful for the community,” said Arrow’s Carl Staples. “It’s a great opportunity for Arrow to give back to the community and be a part of the community that we have so prospered in.”
